John Huet, bassist and luthier, is the eyes, hands, heart and soul of Huet Instruments.
"In the late 1980's, as a 20+ year veteran of playing, I was looking
for a high-end bass upgrade.
I was not happy with what was out there, so took some scraps from a furniture
project I'd just completed, and started working. "The Bear" prototype was born.
The face is zebrawood, the center is wenge, the back is paduk, and the fingerboard is coco-bola."
"The Bear," in the gallery is s/n #007.
It is a fretless 6 string bass guitar.
Other basses in the gallery are #012, #014, #015, #016, and #017.
Number 012 is a 6 string fretted bass with a coco-bola fingerboard and solid ash body.
The neck is rock maple and bubinga.
Number 014 is a 5 string fretted bass with a solid ash body, rock maple neck, and birdseye maple fingerboard.
"Huet Instrument production numbers
had been bogged down by my day job in the millwork industry, but no longer!"
